Bright Prints, Big City
Raquel Hladky at Berlin Fashion Week
Serendipity lurks around the most random corners of Berlin, a city known for its artists and creative types from around the world. And at Fashion Week, some of those wonders come out, and they are presented right on the runway. In the next few days, I look forward to seeing what Raquel Hladky has in store.
The Berlin-based designer born to a Czech father and Catalan mother caught my eye immediately with her use of bold prints with bright, contrasting accents in her past collections. She collaborates with a different, under-the-radar artist on print designs each season, and there’s good news for those who seek forgiving silhouettes and an androgynous look: her unisex, oversize shapes aim to blur gender lines and introduce men to an audacious style of clothing. And when you think she’s too whimsical, her designs incorporate the sobering element of being eco-friendly and cruelty-free.
Hladky’s show will be live on July 7, 2017. In the meantime, take a moment and appreciate Hladky’s retro website which harks back to the early apple operating systems of the ‘90s. It’s nothing short of delightful, and my feelings run likewise for her upcoming show this week. -sc
